How
It Works
Jonathan Goldman,
in his book Healing Sounds, The Power
of Harmonics, suggests the following
about breathing and the breath. The
stillpoint between the in-breath and the
out-breath…is believed by many to
be the time during the cycle of the breath
when the human body is locked in resonance
with itself. Scientist Itzhak Bentov, among
others, believes that during this time,
the body creates a wave form that operates
at about 7.8 cycles per second. This is
a frequency which is believed to be the
resonant frequency of the Earth and that
during this time; we are, however briefly,
also locked in resonance with the energy
of the Earth. Could this be the moment we
experience our connectedness with all things?
Can we re-create this experience…and
re-member?
It has long
been known that breath is not only necessary
for life it is essential to our moving from
a state of fight or flight to one of calm.
If we want to change a pattern, it is necessary
to consciously suggest to the brain that
a change is in order. The Reset Breath is
an effective way to send that signal.
Our
normal cycle of breathing is an inhale followed
by an exhale…in and out. The Reset
Breath suggests that beginning with an exhale
sends a conscious signal to the brain that
a change is being requested. Through

Breath sequence
has been used in the Lamaze program and
many others that focus on the breath. One
purpose of The Reset Breath is to transition
from one task to another by bringing awareness
to our breathing. Establishing this habit
as we are completing each task, rather than
merging it with the ones that precede and
follow it, can result in less fatigue at
the end of each day.

The Reset Breath 1-2-3 |
…many
have been taught improper breathing techniques
during school or some other time when we
were told that taking a deep breath meant
bringing up our shoulders.
Take a deep
breath now and observe what happens to your
body. If your lower rib cage and stomach
are expanding when you take this breath,
you are doing diaphragmatic breathing. Usually
this is a very relaxed breath. However,
if you notice that your shoulders are raising
and the stomach and lower ribs are not moving,
you are not breathing from the diaphragm.
You are also probably tense.
